605 Day

Did you know that South Dakota is one of only 12 states in the United States to have a single area code?  That area code, created in 1947, is 605.  This year, the Custer Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating 605 Day on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 (6/05) by giving away three 605 stickers from Black Hills Stickers and Apparel.  To be entered to win, go to our Facebook page and share a picture of your favorite thing about Custer or South Dakota.  The winners will be chosen on 6/05.

Now that you know that South Dakota has only one area code, do you think you can answer these other questions about our state?

1. What is South Dakota’s nickname?

2. South Dakota’s highest point is also the highest United States point east of the Rockies. Which popular hiking place in the Black Hills has this claim to fame?

3. What is the largest industry in South Dakota?

4. In which year did South Dakota officially gain statehood?

5. The geographic center of North America is located in which South Dakota town?

6. What is the state flower?

7. What is the state animal?

8. What is the state dessert?

9. Which town in South Dakota is the “oldest continuously occupied white settlement”?

10. Established in 1875, which is the oldest town in the Black Hills?
